On Friday, July 3, Kington Choral Society will give a concert of choral pieces at St Andrew’s Church, Presteigne, with The Marches Camerata.
Under the baton of musical director Simon Harper, the choir will open the evening with Henry Purcell’s I Was Glad, a setting of Psalm 122 composed for the coronation of James II in 1685.
This will be followed by Haydn’s Little Organ Mass, Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and Laudate Dominum, as well as Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria. The choir will be accompanied by organist Paul Roberts and a chamber ensemble from The Marches Camerata, who will also perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Strings. Paula Kempton will lead the ensemble. Soloists for the evening will be soprano Naomi Sturgess and mezzo-soprano Hannah Beddoes.
A spokesperson for the choir said: “Simon has been leading the choir for 18 months now and is well received by all members for his ‘firm but gentle’ approach to rehearsing. He brings out qualities in our voices that we didn’t think possible.”
Doors open at 7pm for a 7;30pm start. Tickets are £15 and can be bought in person from Salty Dog, Presteigne; Border Bean, Kington; and Tower House Gallery, Knighton. Tickets can also be purchased online via trybooking.com or through the choir’s website, kingtonchoral.org.uk
