Lady Lily the Pink has said she is happy to be back at the general election count in Llanelwedd only four months on from the August Brecon and Radnorshire by-election.
However the Official Monster Raving Loony Party candidate, real name Bernice Benton, said she thinks tonight’s count will be more tense than the count in the summer.
She said: “I’m looking forward to the count in February. Every four months – it’s great fun. Can we take it? That is the question.
“I love being at the count, I don’t think it’s going to be quite as relaxed as the last one – I think it’s going to be a bit more tense but I’m really looking forward to being here and seeing what happens and hopefully beating my 334 votes from last time.
“I can’t beat UKIP this time because they’ve not stood. Perhaps I scared them off?”
Lady Lily arrived at the count with fellow OMRLP candidates Viscount Gaffer, dressed in a blazer made from gaffer tape, and Bearly Holding it Together Beryl, wearing a bear onesie.
She said she doesn’t think she’ll get her election deposit back on this occasion but that “Christmas miracles do happen” sometimes.
The pink lady said she is not after a win tonight but that she has been looking to encourage constituents to vote.
Lady Lily, who said has come with pink Smarties for the evening, said: “I encourage a proper democratic choice, which is - the only reason I’ve ever stood is to encourage everybody to vote and I’ve always said don’t vote for me, vote for somebody but if you need to protest then vote for me. I’m the none-of-the-above candidate. I will be really happy if there’s a really good turn out.
“We’ve had a really positive reaction. We’ve had really good and positive comments about the usual things and saying I sound more sane than the others and obviously I am the only official loony out there and the others are just pretending.”
