On Tuesday, 4 August, the lake management team at Llangorse Lake announced the lake was fully open once again.

“We’re thrilled to share that the recent blue-green algae bloom has cleared! The water is visibly blue-green algae free, all toxin tests have passed, and Natural Resources Wales’ species test was below thresholds,” said a spokesperson for the lake.

This means that water activities: Paddleboarding, Canoeing, kayaking, Waterskiing, wakeboarding, Rowing boats, pedalos, and Fishing boats can commence again.

They have battled with blue-green algae across July with the first blue-green algae bloom causing a temporary closure on Friday, 10 July.

Blue-green algae can cause skin irritation, stomach issues, and is especially harmful to children and pets if ingested.

Five days later on July 15, the temporary restrictions were lifted after the algae had cleared.

However, just over a week later on July 23 the restrictions were back in place after the dangerous algae had returned. The team used ultrasound devices to disperse the algae. At the time, the team said: “Unfortunately, due to visible blue-green algae, we have reintroduced restrictions on immersive activities on Llangorse Lake.

“We’re hopeful this bloom will again be short-lived! Our ultrasound devices typically clear blooms quickly, though they only start having an impact once blue green algae is in the water.”

The reintroduced restrictions have been lifted again as the lake announced it is now fully opened again. The team are hoping this will be the end of the saga but in their statement said: “If you spot any signs of blue-green algae in the future, please let us know immediately.Thank you for your patience, we can’t wait to see you back on the lake!”
