New research from credit card Aqua has compared destinations across the UK, considering metrics like the cost of accommodation, online popularity and weather data to reveal the best staycation destinations for holidaymakers to choose from this summer.

According to a 2025 survey, 8 in 10 UK residents have been on a staycation across the country. But from coastal towns to bustling cities, which destination is the best for a summertime staycation in the UK?

In their findings Bannau Brycheiniog is the most affordable staycation destination this summer, with an average cost of £112 per night for accommodation. From hiking up Pen-y-Fan to exploring the Waterfall Country, the Welsh mountain range is ideal for a fun yet budget-friendly getaway.

Eastbourne placed second, with hotel stays around £115 per night and Torquay rounded out the top three with an average price of £129 per night.

Aqua also named the national park on it’s top ten list of hidden gem staycation destinations, pointing to the figures of 514,000 hashtags on social media and an average annual number of searches for ‘visit Brecon Beacons’ and ‘hotel in Brecon Beacons’ of 14,040.

Scott Yule, Commercial Director at Aqua, shares some top tips for saving for a staycation and managing your money while you’re away: “To help budget for your holiday, consider setting up an automated direct debit to your current account months in advance. Even small, regular contributions will accumulate over time, ensuring you have a dedicated fund for your trip."
