Local politicians have joined Libanus residents in calling for urgent measures to improve road safety in the village.

Following a public meeting on August 12, Jane Dodds, MS for Mid and West Wales, and Powys County Councillor Raiff Devlin have formally requested action to tackle speeding, pedestrian safety, and environmental concerns along the A470.

In a letter to Welsh Government officials, Ms Dodds outlined six key proposals, including reducing the speed limit from 50mph to 30mph, installing a pedestrian island, adding flashing vehicle-activated speed signs, and improving road signage. An expedited survey for the crossing point has also been requested.

Ms Dodds said: “I am deeply grateful to the residents of Libanus for their engagement and to Raiff for raising this issue. These are practical, achievable steps that can make a real difference. I look forward to working with the Welsh Government and local authorities to deliver progress.”

Cllr Devlin added:“The concerns raised by residents are not new, but they are growing more urgent. We must act now to make Libanus safer and healthier for everyone who lives, works, and travels here.”
