Llandovery Community Cinema is proud to announce its next screening in the 2025 Environmental Film Series: Woman at War (2018), an award-winning Icelandic drama that resonates deeply with current local environmental activism in the Tywi Valley.

Thanks to generous funding from Ffilm Cymru, Llandovery Community Cinema is showcasing seven Welsh-language films and three environmental-themed features throughout the year.

On Saturday, 19 July, Woman at War marks the second in this environmental series, chosen for its striking parallels to the ongoing Cofiwch Dyffryn Tywi protest: a grassroots movement opposing the construction of large-scale electricity pylons through our treasured local landscape.

Woman at War, directed by Benedikt Erlingsson, tells the story of Halla, a quiet choir conductor who leads a secret life as an eco-activist, waging a one-woman war against an industrial threat to her homeland. Her courage and tenacity mirror the real-life determination of local residents standing up to protect the Tywi Valley.

Following the screening, members of the local Anti-Pylons Committee will lead a discussion on the current state of the protest, what’s next, and how community members can get involved.

“This film empowers us to act,” said Ella Peel, Llandovery Cinema’s Film Coordinator.

“It shows how one voice, when joined with others, can shape the future of a community. We hope it inspires more people to join the fight for our landscape.”

Doors open at 5.30pm at Rhys Prichard Memorial Hall where a shared community meal will take place at 6pm followed by the film screening at 7pm.

Everyone is welcome: bring a dish to share, bring your neighbours, and bring your voice.

Tickets are just £5 and can be purchased at LYCC on Market Square Llandovery, online at Ticket Source https://bit.ly/llandoverycinema-womanatwar or on the door (subject to availability).
