Llandrindod Wells Town Council hopes to bring a ray of sunshine to the town this summer with the launch of a new competition open to its residents.

The "Llandrindod Wells Sunflower Challenge" opens for registration on Friday, April 7.

Residents are invited to participate and can register online or pick up a form from the Old Town Hall. Registration will close on Monday, May 8 at 6pm.

The competition will have an official launch at the Bandstand, during the town council’s Coronation Celebration Event on Monday, May 8 and will run until 6pm on August 31.

The competition is open to all Llandrindod Wells residents and is free to enter.

Each entrant will be issued with a pack of five seeds and will be encouraged to plant the seeds in a pot or in the ground once the competition commences.

All entrants must use the seeds provided and a Facebook page has been created to provide updates as the competition progresses.

Once the competition has closed, members of the town council will adjudicate the final heights and choose the top three blooms, with prizes being awarded to the winners.

The town council plans to invite all competitors to attend a final publicity event in early September.

A spokesperson for the town council said: “We hope to see the town get behind this competition and look forward to seeing the town in full bloom.”
