A much-loved former firefighter from Llanwrtyd Wells has been recognised in the King’s 2025 Birthday Honours for his outstanding service to the community.
Steve Amor, a retired Watch Manager with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for his dedication to public service throughout his 35-year career.
Steve began his journey in the Fire and Rescue Service in 1988, joining as a firefighter at Llanwrtyd Wells Fire Station. He was promoted to Leading Firefighter (now known as Crew Manager) in 1998, and in 2011 rose to the rank of Watch Manager.
Steve spent his entire firefighting career based at Llanwrtyd where he not only responded to emergencies but also played a vital role as a Medical Co-Responder, working alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST) to provide urgent medical care.
His commitment to the town extended well beyond his professional duties. Steve has also been actively involved in numerous voluntary groups in the Llanwrtyd Wells area, earning the respect and admiration of residents and colleagues alike.
Chief Fire Officer of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Roger Thomas said: “I was delighted to hear that our former colleague, Steve Amor, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s 2025 Birthday Honours.
“During his long an illustrious career at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Steve worked tirelessly to support his local community not only in a Fire and Rescue Service capacity but also as a Medical Co-Responder supporting the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST).
“Steve has also supported numerous voluntary groups within the Llanwrtyd Wells area and as such he is a worthy recipient of this prestigious award.
“On behalf of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, I extend our sincere congratulations to Steve.”
