Talgarth Town Hall started the New Year by hosting a coffee morning “with a purpose” last Saturday.

More than 50 people, from Talgarth, Bronllys and Three Cocks turned out to enjoy coffee and a chat, catching up with old friends and making new ones.

However, the real purpose of the event was the message they heard from local volunteers Helen Colbert and Anna Weston about the plans to launch a regular Tuesday Lunch Club in the town, starting on Tuesday, February 7.

Helen, whose late mother Eunice Gwynne worked with the late Val Harvey MBE to launch the Talgarth Luncheon Club in the 1980s, spoke enthusiastically about the plans, which have been developed with the support of PAVO.

Talgarth County Councillor, William Powell, was on hand to offer his support, and commented: “It is truly heartening to see the evident support in our communities for this welcome initiative.

“When I approached the Town Hall this morning, the building was alive with laughter and chat, which is as much needed to promote well-being as a hearty meal, in these challenging times.

“I salute Anna, Helen and the whole volunteer team in their efforts. It was also very special to see Cynthia Argent, who led the previous Luncheon Club over many years, present to enjoy the event and lend her support.

“I know that the Tuesday Lunch Club will go from strength to strength.”
