POLICE investigating an alleged serious assault during Brecon's festival weekend have made an arrest.

Officers said a man suffered 'serious facial injuries' following an incident near the Markets Tavern in Free Street in the early hours of Sunday, August 11.

Thousands of people poured into Brecon over the August 9 to 11 weekend for the Brecon Jazz Festival and the Fringe Festival that runs alongside it.

Dyfed Powys Police said a 21-year-old man, from Brecon, has since been arrested on suspicion of causing grevious bodily harm following the incident. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

During the weekend police said 14 people were arrested, mainly for public order offences or assaults. Officers also issued 'direction to leave' notices to 20 people ordering them to leave a designated area for a certain period of time.
