ON August Bank Holiday Monday the Town Square of Llanwrtyd Wells was festooned with colourful bunting and stall holders were up with the lark to get their stalls in place for the day.

The weather was fair and there was a buzz of excitement as people began to arrive for the first ever Llanwrtyd Street Market.

The brainchild of the mayor, Peter James MBE, this was the community coming together to raise awareness (and money) for an exciting new project on Dolwen field which will entail: improved access to the pavilion by putting in a road and car parking space; installing a cycling/running track around the perimeter of the field; creating a sensory garden at the back of the pavilion; installing outdoor fitness equipment at strategic points around the park, and creating a computer hub within the pavilion

The variety of interesting stalls dotted around the square included crepe making, local handmade wooden crafts, books, shabby chic furniture , candles and soaps, locally produced Welsh goods from the Heritage And Arts Centre, quilling cards, pictures and boxes, curry take away, cakes and homemade produce locally made bags and bric a brac. This was truly a community event with local people turning out to support us in their droves.

The mayor said: “This was a wonderful day, with a great atmosphere, and the people of Llanwrtyd enjoying time together, laughing and talking and more importantly sharing the fun spirit of the day.

“I would like to thank all the stall holders who took time to set up their stalls, those who helped make the square look so wonderful for the day, to ‚‘Dewi Dragon’ for keeping everyone’s spirits up and to all those who turned out to support us.

“This is just the beginning but we have to start somewhere and this was a very successful beginning to fundraising for a unique and exciting project in Llanwrtyd Wells.”
