All five candidates who are fighting to be the next Brecon and Radnorshire MP in next month’s general election have now been announced.

Liberal Democrat Jane Dodds, who is standing again only four months after winning the constituency’s by-election, took the seat from former Conservative MP Chris Davies on Thursday, August 1.

On the day of the general election, Thursday, December 12, it will have only been 132 days since the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats was elected the MP of Brecon and Radnorshire.

The new Conservative challenger is Fay Jones who was selected as the party’s candidate at a meeting in Builth Wells on October 16.

Meanwhile Labour has put forward Tom Davies, who also battled in August’s by-election, who was elected by the party in April before the recall petition against the former MP started in May.

Lady Lily the Pink will again be standing for the Official Monster Raving Looney Party at the December election.

Lady Lily, real name Bernice Benton, also ran at the by-election in August where she received 334 votes, beating UKIP’s Liz Phillips who finished sixth with only 242 votes.

The former mayor of Llandrindod Wells Jeff Green will also be in the race to be the next MP as the official candidate for the Welsh Christian Party in the pre-Christmas election.

Plaid Cymru and the Greens will not be entering candidates for Brecon and Radnorshire in the general election as the two parties agreed a pro-EU electoral pact with Liberal Democrats.

The pact, which sees the two parties stepping aside for Lib Dem Jane Dodds in Brecon and Radnorshire, will also impact ten other constituencies in Wales including Montgomeryshire and Llanelli.

The Brexit Party will also not be contesting the Brecon and Radnorshire seat in support of the Welsh Conservatives.

Brexit Party Leader Nigel Farage announced earlier this week that the party would not stand in seats won by the Conservatives in the 2017 general election.

He said standing in Tory-held seats would increase the chances of another EU referendum, and that the party would focus instead on taking seats off Labour.

UKIP have not entered a candidate for Brecon and Radnorshire in the December general election.
