A MEETING is due to be held at a secondary school to update its local community on its future following a closure threat.
The meeting at Gwernyfed High School in Three Cocks is to be held on Tuesday, September 22 following a meeting the day before between school governors and Powys County Council’s school organisation review panel.
The council was forced in July to look again at proposals to close Gwernyfed and Brecon High School following a legal challenge. The council had proposed closing both schools and replacing them with a new 11 to 16 school at Brecon.
But the council agreed to restart talks over the future of the schools. Its officials are due to meet governors and local councillors on Monday, September 21.
Gwernyfed governors will provide feedback on the meeting and explain the next stages in the process at the Tuesday, September 22 meeting, which starts at 7.30pm and to which all parents and members of the community are welcome to attend.
The council has already informed Gwernyfed it will have a year 12 (lower sixth form) provision from September 2016.
