Llandovery Twinning Association has sent condolences and a message of solidarity to its French counterpart following the terror attacks in Paris.

In August this year, Llandovery celebrated the 31st year of its twinning with its partner town of Pluguffan, in Brittany, and earlier this year sent messages of sympathy to the Pluguffan Town Council in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo atrocity.

The twinning association’s message read: "Once again, and within the short space of twelve months, we, the citizens of Llandovery, find ourselves side-by-side with our friends from Pluguffan, firm in the face of terrorism. Once again, we are made aware of the values of the French Revolution which, more than two centuries ago, gave to every citizen the fundamental human rights of Liberty, Equality, and Brotherhood. These values even today constitute the essential basis of every tolerant and democratic society in the world: they are eternal values, but which are nevertheless more and more threatened these days. It is up to us all, therefore, of whatever race, colour or religion, to do our best to ensure the future of a global society which is free and tolerant.

Long live France! Long live tolerance!"
