IT'S been a traumatic first few months of motherhood for Laura Thomas and her baby daughter Jasmine, who was born weighing less than two pounds and was minutes away from dying.

Jasmine spent the first 13 weeks of her life hooked up to ventilators in the intensive care unit (ICU) at two different hospitals due to enduring an unknown amount of time with her umbilical chord wrapped dangerously around her neck.
