Powys County Council has warned drivers after reports of fraudulent QR codes being placed on signage in some car parks.

A spokesperson said: “We have received reports of scam QR codes being placed on car park signage in some Powys car parks. Please do not scan these codes.”

The council confirmed it does not use QR codes for payment, adding: “We do not place QR codes on our car park signage or pay and display machines, and do not use QR codes for payment.”

Staff are now checking all car parks and removing any suspicious codes.

Scanning unknown QR codes can expose users to fraud, malware, or phishing, allowing criminals to steal personal data, banking details, or install malicious software on devices.
