Fire crews from both sides of the Wales–England border are set to join forces next month for a day of fundraising in support of two charities.
On Saturday, March 28, firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will stage simultaneous charity car washes at four stations.
Presteigne and Knighton stations in Powys will take part alongside Kington and Kingsland stations in Herefordshire. Each will host a community car wash from 9:30am until 2pm, with members of the public invited to bring their vehicles along and make a donation in return for a wash carried out by crews.
The money raised will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity and 2wish.
The Fire Fighters Charity, founded in 1943, provides lifelong support to serving and retired firefighters, their families and other fire and rescue personnel, focusing on mental, physical and social wellbeing. It relies on donations and fundraising organised by fire services across the UK. More information about the charity can be found at: www.firefighterscharity.org.uk
2wish offers free and confidential bereavement support to families affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young adult, tailoring its services to individual needs. More information about the charity can be found at: 2wish.org.uk
As well as encouraging on-the-day donations, crews are inviting local businesses and residents to sponsor a firefighter or fire cadet. For a minimum contribution of £20, sponsors will fund a personalised T-shirt for a participating firefighter or cadet, with customisation provided free of charge by Stitch. Sponsors will also receive a public thank-you on the fire services’ social media channels.
Anyone wishing to take part or sponsor a firefighter is being asked to contact Presteigne Fire Station via its Facebook page.
