Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team came to the aid of an injured walker on Wednesday, August 13, in the waterfalls area of Bannau Brycheiniog.
The walker suffered head and leg injuries after falling on the steps to Sgwd yr Eira waterfall. Dyfed-Powys Police called the rescue team, marking their 118th call-out of the year. They arrived on scene alongside a Welsh Ambulance Service crew.
The team helped paramedics reach the casualty and, while medical treatment was carried out for the injuries, prepared a stretcher to safely extricate him from the steep terrain.
A spokesperson for the Central Rescue Mountain Team said: “We’re very grateful to our National Park Warden friend who joined us to help, to the passers-by who offered help and in particular to a lady (sorry, we didn’t get your name) who did a great job of helping carry some of our bags to the top of the steps.
“We were also flattered to receive the large round of applause from the gathered crowd at the top of the steps as we emerged with the stretcher onto the path out of the gorge!
“Once at the ambulance we transferred the gentleman onto the ambulance stretcher for the journey to hospital, and our fingers are crossed for his full and speedy recovery. At 4pm our response vehicle was back at base after another hot and sweaty afternoon out.”
