Chris Davies MP and Gary Price, Prospective Assembly Candidate for Brecon and Radnorshire, have launched a ‘Save our Schools’ survey to ask local people for their views on possible school closures.

Powys council’s cabinet has agreed to start the process that could close secondary schools at Brecon, Builth Wells, Gwernyfed and Llandrindod Wells.

Parents are also fighting to save primary schools from closure as Powys council looks to reduce surplus places. The council is currently consulting on closing Llanbister and Llanfihangel Rhydithon community primaries and Nantmel Church in Wales Primary as well as the Welsh stream at Ysgol Dolafon in Llanwrtyd Wells.

Mr Davies said: “I believe that it is vital that we gather the views of the people of Brecon and Radnorshire on possible school closures. That is why I am proud to launch my own and Gary Price’s ‘Save our Schools’ survey.

"While my own and Gary’s voices are in strong opposition to the proposals, combined with the voices of the people of Brecon and Radnorshire I believe that we can make Powys County Council seriously consider their appalling proposals to close our schools. Their plans would remove talented teachers from our area, hurt our local economy and close the door on our children’s education.

"I would encourage everyone in our area to fill out the survey, a copy of which can be found on my website at www.chrisdavies.org.uk or by call my office on 01982 559180 for a hard copy.”
