James Evans is pressing the Welsh Government to dredge rivers to help reduce the risk of flooding.
The Brecon and Radnorshire MS said at the Senedd that many towns in his constituency like Builth Wells, Penybont, Ystradgynlais, Brecon and Crickhowell suffer flooding problems on an annual basis.
He said: “Many people in those towns tell me that dredging used to be done years ago to reduce the amount of shoals in our rivers, and we never had the flooding levels that we do today.
“NRW say they’re over-stretched, they’re over-bureaucratic and things can’t be put through the system.”
Mr Evans said he hopes Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths will look at dredging rivers to help deal with the problems people are facing and to ensure that towns are safe and that people aren’t forced out of their homes.
