JUNIOR children at Ysgol Y Mynydd Du in Talgarth were excited to welcome the curator of Brecknock Museum, Nigel Blackamore, to the school on Friday, December 7.
His visit was a fitting finale to their topic, Time Raiders, based on Ancient Egypt.
After a fascinating question-and-answer session about the museum and his job as curator there, Nigel was invited on a tour of the school’s own museum exhibitions. These had been planned and developed by the children as part of an independent ‘rich task’.
Each group researched and created the artefacts on display and was challenged to make their exhibition as interactive as possible.
Head teacher Sam Toone said: “It was tremendous to see many of the skills they had previously learnt using green screen video technology, animation and coding being put into practice in their displays.”
An important part of the task was to formally apply to the head teacher for a specific space to exhibit within the school.
Marketing by means of invitations to the governors, parents and other children within the school was also part of the brief.
The task gave the children a real purpose to their learning which was evident in their enthusiasm when showing visitors their exhibitions.
