A popular walking trail and car park at Nash Wood, Presteigne, will be closed for several months as Natural Resources Wales (NRW) carries out essential forest management work.

The closure is needed to allow for tree thinning and clearfelling operations, including the removal of trees damaged by Storm Darragh, which brought severe winds and heavy rainfall across Wales in December 2024.

NRW says the work will also help ensure the safety, resilience, and ecological integrity of the woodland for years to come.

Rory Gill, of Mid forest operations for NRW, said: “Storm Darragh caused significant damage to parts of Nash Wood, and this closure will allow us to safely remove affected trees while also carrying out planned thinning as part of our long-term forest management.

“We understand how important this walking loop is to the local community, and we’re committed to completing the work as swiftly and safely as possible so that people can enjoy the woodland again soon.”

Visitors are urged to respect closure signs and barriers, as entering the site during operations could lead to serious injury and delay the work.

NRW will provide updates on progress and reopening dates via its Nash Wood visitor page on its website and social media channels. In the meantime, walkers looking to walk in Radnor Forest are advised to use alternative routes at Fishpools and Warren Wood, which remain open to the public.
