All 320 arrestees have been charged under section 13 of the 2000 Terrorism Act which carries with it a sentence of up to six months in jail.

Dr Levene, who is both Jewish and an internationally recognised genocide scholar, is one of several Radnorshire campaigners who have been arrested and charged for peaceful protest in support of Palestine Action since the group was proscribed as a terrorist organisation in July 2025.

The US embassy sit-down comes in the week when an appeal before the Supreme Court will challenge the Appeal Court’s decision, in July of this year, to overturn a previous High Court ruling to de-proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation.

The group says it has taken direct action to prevent Britain’s military and logistical support of Israel’s actions in Gaza which a UN independent international commission of inquiry has already determined constitutes genocide, pending a final decision on the matter from the International Court of Justice. There have been over 4,000 UK arrests, since July 2025, of people peacefully holding signs in support of Palestine Action.

Dr Levene, who was arrested this Saturday said: “The whole thing is farcical. In September, the recently inaugurated Burnham government seemed to be pivoting towards an open recognition that what Israel is doing in the illegally occupied West Bank and Gaza amounts to war crimes and ethnic cleansing. Yet when it comes to peaceful protesters - many of whom are old age pensioners - holding signs in support of Palestine Action, they are subjected to the full force of the law.

“This isn’t just a flagrant abuse of a cherished right to public protest, not to say freedom of expression, it also amounts to the most unconscionable squandering of police resources when they have serious crimes to deal with, not to say a complete waste of taxpayers' money. One can only conclude that a major reason for the crack-down on protest is to appease a delusional US president, otherwise chief accomplice of Netanyahu’s genocide.

“The new Plaid administration in Cardiff ought to be publicly distancing itself from this British government hypocrisy, even where that might mean defying Whitehall directives on Palestine Action protest and by making it absolutely clear its rejection of, and repugnance towards any military or logistical support, or the making of components for genocide anywhere under Welsh jurisdiction.”
