It’s Volunteering Week this week and staff at Brecon’s Oxfam shop have been celebrating the work the charity does.
The shop has been trading since 1998 and has raised more than £250,000 for people in poverty both here and abroad and has been a flurry of activity for the week of events.
Staff have now launched an appeal for more volunteers to join the team.
Volunteer Andrew Lowman, who has been volunteering for Oxfam for six years, said: "I would say to anyone who is considering becoming a volunteer that it is very rewarding to be a part of the fundraising that really makes a difference to people in poverty.
"I meet a lot of people and take a lot of money which gives me responsibility and is, therefore, rewarding. Of course I can’t forget the doughnuts that are often bought in by Jackie, another volunteer."
The shop is also taking part in a window dressing competition against other Oxfam shops throughout the country.
Alice Gunn, who is volunteering as an assistant recruitment manager, has helped to dress the windows.
She said: "In the Brecon shop we only have nine volunteers and the recommended amount for running a shop is 33. We would really appreciate it if anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer here in Brecon would like to get in touch."
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to email [email protected] for more information.
