BRECON resident John Davies is the oldest volunteer in mid Wales with the Royal Voluntary Service at the age of 94.
The pensioner was recognised for his commitment to the service at a special party to celebrate the national charity, which used to be known as the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service.
It is celebrating 80 years of voluntary service this year and the Llandrindod Wells Office, which forms part of the Ceredigion and Powys hub, held the special birthday party at the Sunnyhaven Park at Howey to mark the occasion.
During the event John and Caroline Hafner, of Hay-on-Wye, were presented with five years service certificates and medals.
They were presented with their awards by Sharon Sinclair the operations manager who is pictured cutting the special 80th birthday cake. Also in the photograph is the youngest volunteer member Izzy Goodridge together with local officials including Glenys-Wynn Jones, service manager; John Davies the assisted shopping bus driver, and Shirley Oles the service co-ordinator. Further information about the local service is available from 01597 824931.
