PLANS for more than 100 new homes and office space in Brecon have gone on display in the town.

Llandrindod Wells-based developers PAR Homes intends building approximately 118 homes on land at Cerrigcochion Road opposite Brecon High School. The site is bordered by the Slwch Lane bridleway.

The 5.05 hectares site had previously been earmarked as development land for employment use and the plans, which have been submitted to the Brecon Beacons National Park as a development brief before a formal planning application, allocates 0.5 hectares for employment. 4.55 hectares is allocated for housing.

The developers estimate between 85 and 105 jobs could be accommodated at the site.

Members of the public had the opportunity to see the plans and comment at a public consultation event at the Guildhall in Brecon. Local residents were also invited to a stakeholder event.

Matthew Hall, of PAR Homes, said the proposals had been well received.

PAR Homes has also built the Court Meadows development in Bronllys.

A fifth of the homes will be classed as affordable housing, in line with the Brecon Beacons National Park policy that at least 20% of new developments are. The affordable homes will be available for rent.

It is intended building 65 three-bedroom houses, 18 two-bedroom houses, 10 four bedroom houses and five three bed bungalows. There will also be 20 two bedroom flats developed. Some of the properties could be up to three storeys high.

Areas of public open space are also planned along part of the existing bridleway and it is proposed to retain trees and enhance existing hedgerows to minimise the impact on nesting birds and bats.

Member of the public have until Thursday, February 4 to comment on the plans which can also be viewed on the Brecon Beacons National Park website.
