Dyfed-Powys Police have introduced the Herbert Protocol, a new scheme designed to aid the safe recovery of vulnerable individuals living with dementia who go missing.
Named after George Herbert, a war veteran with dementia, the Protocol encourages carers and families to complete a form in advance with key information such as medication details, recent locations, and a photo. This should be kept in a safe place and can be quickly shared with emergency services if their loved one goes missing.
Detective Constable Meinir Thomas said the form helps reduce stress and improve the chances of finding missing persons quickly and safely.
The scheme is in partnership with charity MedicAlert and aims to support the thousands of dementia patients reported missing each year.
