Tyler Chambers, Welsh Conservative candidate for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd in the Senedd elections in May, has criticised Labour and Plaid Cymru’s decision to expand the Senedd by 36 politicians.

Chambers said the decision fails to address the real challenges facing Wales.

“At a time when Wales faces the longest NHS waiting lists on record, slipping school standards, and real pressure on local services, spending £120 million on more politicians will not solve the problems people are dealing with day in, day out,” he said.

Chambers argued that the money earmarked for Senedd expansion should instead be directed towards frontline services that residents rely on.

“£120 million of taxpayers’ money should be going into our NHS, into our classrooms, and into local services - not creating 36 more politicians that no one wants.”

He also raised concerns that Labour and Plaid’s plans would weaken the direct link between communities and their representatives, making it harder for voters to know who speaks up for them.

“That local link matters,” Chambers said. “People want representation that’s clear, accountable and rooted in their community, not a system that feels more distant and more complicated.”

Speaking about his campaign, Chambers added: “When I’m speaking to local residents on the doorstep, not once have I been told that what Wales needs is more politicians. People want shorter waiting times, better schools, and public services that actually work. That’s what this election should be about, a local candidate who listens to residents, understands the pressures facing public services, and is focused on delivering real improvements in our area.”

“I’m standing to make sure people’s priorities are heard,” Chambers added. “Wales needs a Senedd that delivers better outcomes and we are the only party committed to scrapping the 36 more politicians and reversing the senedd expansion.”
