Plaid Cymru Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd has announced that Kate Heneghan has joined the party’s list for the 2026 Senedd election.
Kate Heneghan is an experienced senior leader in the UK charity sector, championing suicide prevention in young people. Previously she was a researcher with Public Health Wales, and a registered nurse and midwife. She has stood as the Plaid Cymru Westminster candidate, bringing experience of frontline public services, research, and national campaigning to the team.
Kate has lived in the Brecon area for more than 35 years.
The announcement comes at a time of growing momentum for Plaid Cymru across Wales. A recent ITV/YouGov poll shows Plaid Cymru surging in the polls, underlining a clear appetite among voters for new leadership and a stronger Welsh voice in the Senedd.
Sioned Williams MS, Plaid Cymru Lead Candidate for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd said: “I am very pleased to welcome Kate to the Plaid Cymru Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd team. Our list brings together people from across this large new constituency, with a wide range of personal and professional experience. That breadth is a real strength. Plaid Cymru in Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd will build on the party’s growing momentum with a strong local focus on our communities and the issues that matter to them.”
Kate Heneghan said: “I am delighted to be part of such a strong list of candidates, representing communities from Powys through to Neath and Swansea. Only Plaid Cymru is offering the new leadership Wales needs to rebuild and strengthen our health and public services, and I am proud to be part of that effort.”
The current Plaid Cymru list for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd for the 2026 Senedd election is:
Sioned Williams, Rebeca Phillips, Andrew Jenkins, Justin Horrell, Kate Heneghan.
With support for Plaid Cymru continuing to grow, the Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd team says it is focused on building on this momentum by listening to local communities, offering a hopeful alternative to the status quo, and making the case for a Wales that is fairer, greener, and more confident in its future.
