Final preparations are being made for the Senedd Election hustings in Talgarth later this week, offering members of the public a chance to put their questions to the candidates for the Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd constituency.

The event, hosted by Talgarth & District Regeneration Group, Talgarth Community Library and The Friends of Ysgol y Mynydd Du will take place at Ysgol y Mynydd Du on Wednesday, April 22 from 7pm. The event will also be live-streamed on the Brecon & Radnor Express Facebook page, starting at approximately 7.30pm.

All parties nominated in the election on Thursday, 7 May, have been invited to the hustings, and most have chosen to send their high ranking candidates, including outgoing MSs James Evans of Reform UK and Sioned Williams of Plaid Cymru; Tyler Chambers of the Welsh Conservatives; Cllr Nathan Goldup-John of the Welsh Green Party; Cllr Alex Sims of Welsh Labour and Cllr Jackie Charlton of the Welsh Liberal Democrats have also confirmed their attendance.

In addition, following controversy in hustings last week over exclusions, the organisers are extending a warm invitation to all three independent candidates - and Cllr Beverley Baynham of Presteigne has accepted.

The event will be chaired by Regional Editor at Tindle Newspapers, Liz Davies. Members of the public can submit questions to the Chair in advance by emailing: [email protected]

Questions can be submitted up to 5pm on Wednesday. Numerous questions have already been received.

One of the organisers of the event, Ysgol y Mynydd Du Governor Cllr Louise Elston-Reeves said: “We look forward to welcoming all nominated candidates on an equal basis and to giving everyone a chance to ask their questions.

“We shall have refreshments on the night, with proceeds raised in aid of our Ysgol y Mynydd Du minibus fund and there will also be a retiring collection for that cause.”

It is recommended that members of the public should arrive at the school from 7pm for the 7.30pm start, when Ms Davies will ask questions submitted to the panel of Senedd Election Candidates.
