It has been a busy return to the Senedd, and I want to thank everyone who has supported me. It remains a huge honour to represent the communities of Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd, and I will keep putting local people first.

Politics is moving quickly. Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation as Prime Minister shows how badly Labour has lost public confidence, not least after Welsh Labour’s poor Senedd result in Wales. If Andy Burnham, or anyone else, takes over in Downing Street without facing the country, they must understand people will expect a clear mandate to govern. Wales cannot afford more drift from Westminster or Cardiff Bay!

Back in the Senedd, Reform UK is now the official opposition which means strong scrutiny of the new Plaid Cymru minority government, which will need support from other parties to pass legislation and get its budget through. I will work constructively where it benefits our communities, but I will not give this new government a blank cheque.

Since getting back, I have pressed the new Ministers on the issues that matter to us all, falling livestock numbers, food security, abattoir jobs, the future of Powys leisure provision, cross-border healthcare, and the threat of pylons and turbines across Mid Wales. The latest Nant Mithil consultation will have closed by the time this is printed, but my message remains the same, local voices, evidence and planning advice must come before ideology!

Finally, I am honoured to have been elected Chair of the Senedd’s Climate Change, Environment, Sustainability and Rural Affairs Committee. Alongside that, I continue with my shadow brief for Health, Prevention and Sport, meeting organisations such as Wales Golf and others to understand what support is needed to all walks of life across Wales.

The work has begun again, and I will keep fighting for our area every step of the way.
