THE Poppy Appeal was launched in Llandrindod Wells last Saturday with Royal British Legion holding the South East Wales Poppy Parade.

The Powys Army Cadet Force Band led the parade, which started outside the RBL Club on Tremont Road at 10.15am, and passed through Middleton Street and onto the bandstand area in Temple Gardens.

Middleton Street was lined with balloons for the event and there was a tray of poppies which had been blessed waiting at the bandstand.

There was a good turnout as all the standards from South East Wales, the Uniformed Powys Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps were invited to attend along with officers and committee members of the RBL from across South East Wales. There was also the Guides as well as detachments from Gwent and Powys, including from Llandrindod Wells and Crickhowell.

The Lord Lieutenant Dame Shân Legge-Bourke and the South East Wales chairman Peter Wilson attended the event which was to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. The ceremony included a short service, readings of In Flanders Fields by schoolchildren, a song from a school choir, a piper and the Army Cadet Force Band. Following a balloon release, there was a launch party at the RBL Club in the evening which included a raffle and featured music from some local

bands.
