POWYS County Council is to consider plans to close sixth forms at as many as three secondary schools. The council's cabinet has agreed to instruct consultants to draw up plans for how the council could fund post 16 education at just nine or 10 of its 12 secondary schools. The plan for a reduced number of sixth forms is as a result of funding changes by the Welsh Government and will be brought back to the council in August this year. It is anticipated any sixth form closures could take effect from September 2016. The proposals come just two and a half years after the council's then cabinet agreed in November 2011 to maintain sixth forms at all secondary schools in Powys.
