A FREE parking initiative that people of Powys have enjoyed in the run up to Christmas for the last two years has been cut.

Previously, Powys County Council has provided free parking in its off-street car parks in the three weeks leading up to Christmas but this year it has been cut to just three days.

The free parking will be provided on Saturday, December 20, Tuesday, December 23 and Christmas Eve (Weds, Dec 24).

The reason for the cut in this years festive period is due to insufficient funds as most cabinet members have taken their full allowance this year, leaving just £9,500 in the kitty for the parking, a significant drop compared to last years £45,000 parking budget.

Free parking will take place from 10am to 6pm and will not alter existing on-street parking time restrictions.
