People across Powys are being urged to have their say on how the county council should spend its money for 2026–27 and the years ahead.
The council has launched a budget consultation asking residents to share their views on priorities ranging from schools and social care to road maintenance. Feedback, the authority says, will help shape decisions as Powys works towards what it calls a “Stronger, Fairer, Greener” future.
Cllr David Thomas, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Transformation, said the annual budget process was becoming increasingly challenging.
"Every year, the Council must set a budget that determines how much funding is allocated to essential services,” he said.
“Because Powys is a large rural area, it costs more to provide services here than in large towns and cities.
“With increasing financial pressures, we face tough choices as we work to balance the budget while protecting vital services. We want to hear your ideas for improvements, savings, or ways to raise extra income. Your input will directly influence decisions for the coming financial year and beyond.”
Residents can take part by completing an online survey on the council’s Have Your Say website. Paper and Easy Read versions are also available to download or collect from any Powys library. Completed forms can be handed back to library staff or emailed to the council at [email protected]
The consultation is open until midnight on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
