A free drop-in stitching event is taking place in Presteigne later this month.

‘Get Stitching’ takes place at Hereford Street’s Youth Centre on Saturday, October 21 from 2pm-4pm (LD8 2AT).

In celebration of International Repair Day, the event is open to to all ages and abilities.

Join experienced sewers and menders who are happy to share their skills with anyone who is unsure about replacing a zip, taking up a hem or patching their jeans.

Try some crochet or knitting or gain the confidence to follow a pattern and make something from scratch.

Ready with sewing machines, both electric and hand, needles and scissors, cloth and cottons, the band of menders and makers will show how things are done, helping to bring old clothes back to life, altering or mending a well-loved garment that might otherwise get thrown away.

Our grandparents knew how to sew, to make clothes and mend them but the increasing throwaway fashion culture creates huge environmental problems, so learning how to extend the life of our clothes or to make our own is the sustainable way forward. Its also fun and very satisfying!

There is also the monthly session of Presteigne Repair, in the same place at the same time.

Bring your broken household items and the team of fixers will get to work.
