LLANDOVERY railway station, the Strand Hall in Builth Wells and the Corn Exchange in Crickhowell are all on the Prince of Wales’ itinerary when he visits Wales this summer.

His trip to Llandovery on Wednesday, July 4 with his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, will be part of the celebrations to mark the Heart of Wales railway line’s 150th anniversary.

The Royal couple will meet local volunteers at the station before taking a train journey from Llandovery to Builth Wells, during which they will meet members of the Friends of the Heart of Wales line. Once they reach their destination they will reopen the Strand Hall, Builth Wells’ newly-renovated Edwardian community hall. There Duchess of Cornwall will be presented with a bouquet of flowers by a pupil from Builth Wells Primary School. Their Royal Highnesses will then tour a farmers’ market in the hall and listen to a performance by Young Farmers clubs.

Later on July 4 the Prince, in his role as president of The Prince’s Trust, will meet young people taking part in the ’Get into Rural Skills’ programme as well as some of those who have taken part in the scheme in the past at Brecon Beacons National Park Visitors’ Centre, Libanus.

On Thursday, July 5 Prince Charles will tour the Tretower Court medieval manor house in Crickhowell and meet staff, volunteers and supporters.

The Prince of Wales will also visit the restored former Corn Exchange in the market town where he will unveil a plaque. His Royal Highness will meet the local group who stopped a supermarket taking over the former pub and have turned it into flats and a flourishing spot for business.

The Prince of Wales will also attend a meeting with the Black Mountains Land Use Partnership at Llwyn Celyn, Cwmyoy, near Abergavenny.

These visits are just some of the elements which will feature in The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall’s 14th annual summer visit to Wales. From Monday, July 2 to Friday, July 6, the Royal couple will undertake over 20 engagements across the country.

During the visit Charles and Camilla will be based in His Royal Highness’s house near Llandovery from where the prince, who is patron of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the duchess will host a music and drama evening, featuring performances by Wynne Evans, Owen Teale and royal harpist Anne Denholm.

The Prince of Wales will also attend a service to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff hosted by Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, the First Minister of Wales, and Dr Andrew Goodall, chief executive of NHS Wales. He will also join a garden party at Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan in Ebbw Vale and meet NHS staff on the actual day of the anniversary, Thursday, July 5.

A Clarence House spokesperson said: "The Prince and The Duchess are really looking forward to their annual summer visit to Wales where they will be celebrating key anniversaries for the National Health Service, the Heart of Wales railway line and the 90th anniversary of Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisation. Their Royal Highnesses relish the opportunity to meet members of the community who are making a difference to Welsh life."
