Children in Talgarth were given a special prize after they completed this year’s summer reading programme.
With the new school term well under way and the days growing shorter, it’s never been more important to support our local branch libraries.
Saturday, October 2, ahead of #LibrariesWeek, saw a special prize giving for young readers in Talgarth Library, all of whom had completed this year’s Wild World Heroes Summer Reading Programme.
Over 20 year people – pupils of Ysgol y Mynydd Du and Archdeacon Griffiths School were amongst those to receive their medals and certificates, from Gareth Jones, former Headteacher of Llangors Church in Wales School and a longstanding library patron, with Branch Librarian Jan Shivel, County Councillor for Talgarth, William
Powell and a number of mums and dads also in attendance.
One of the parents, Lindsay Davies of Glasbury, stressed the importance of libraries in supporting literacy.
She said: “We are very fortunate to have a network of local libraries. Jan our librarian is fantastic in providing advice and support to young readers and their parents.
"It’s really important to value the service and make good use of it.”
The Powys County Councillor for Talgarth William Powell said: “Libraries are of course important to access books – but also vital as a resource for local residents to access a wide range of information and services. It’s been very special to witness the success of today’s awards presentation and to meet some of the next generation of library users in person.”
