NEARLY 200 people turned out in the rain on Saturday to make their feelings known about dog fouling in Builth Wells.

The protesters at Builth Fest Against Dogs Mess were particularly concerned about fouling around the Groe and along the walk by the riverside as well as many of the children’s playing fields in the town and pensioners’ lawns.

The event was organised by Builth Wells Rugby Club president Mike Price and supported by many of the club’s players who wore T-shirts bearing the message: ‘Grow some balls pick it up!!’.

Mr Price said that dog fouling, which is a menace to children’s eyesight, is ruining many of the town’s open spaces and cited examples of when sports matches had been stopped to pick up dogs’ mess. The event was filmed on Bulls TV, the rugby club’s YouTube channel, and urged local residents and responsible dog owners to persuade other dog owners to clean up after their pets.

After hearing Mr Price give his speech those present paraded from The Groe to Builth Wells High Street, before returning via Strand Street. Back at the Groe they were addressed by Mayor of Builth Wells Cllr Meryl Prynne, who called on people to report offenders to the town and county councils.
