Llandrindod Wells Town Council have received a whopping grant fund of £222,000 to invest in the refurbishment of the town’s public toilet facilities.

The toilets at Station Crescent and Lake Park, both operated by the town council, will be refurbished with investment from Visit Wales.

Part of the refurbishment will see the Station Crescent toilets fitted with a Changing Places Unit, the first in Powys in a local authority-operated public toilet block.

It is a move that will see the toilets become more accessible for people with complex disabilities. Working closely with Powys County Council’s tourism officers, it is hoped that Llandrindod Wells will become a more welcoming and inclusive place to visit.

The Lake Park facilities are owned by Powys County Council, but are funded and operated by the Town Council.

A spokesperson from Llandrindod Wells Town Council said: “The Town Council is delighted to have been awarded funding of £120,000 from the Welsh Government Mid Wales Conveniences Fund to refurbish the Station Crescent Toilet block which will incorporate the first Changing Places Unit in a public toilet block within Powys. This will enable those residents and visitors with more complex needs to access free toilet facilities in our town and go one step further to making Llandrindod Wells more accessible.

“A further grant has also been awarded to refurbish the Lake Park toilets currently run by the Town Council which will be managed by Powys County Council as this building falls within their ownership. This refurbishment with compliment the activities at the Lake Park.”

Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans, said: "We love to welcome visitors to Wales, with our promise of amazing scenery and experiences. But we also know that getting the basics right is essential, which is why these improvements are so important.

“Quality infrastructure such as public toilets are vital for accessibility and are essential for allowing us to extend our warm, Welsh welcome to everyone.”

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, and Cllr James Gibson-Watt, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys said: “This funding is extremely welcome. We know how important it is for public conveniences to be reliable, accessible and welcoming. This investment will help ensure these toilets are truly fit for purpose and meet the future needs of our communities and visitors to our beautiful county.”

This funding was secured through the budget deal between the Welsh Government and Jane Dodds, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, and the works are expected to be complete by the end of March 2026.
