THE Welsh Government is to provide £2.5m to repair the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

Work will include securing the embankment at Llangattock, work to the Talybont aqueduct and improvements to wildlife habitats.

Brecon and Radnorshire AM Kirsty Williams said: "This is great news for one of this area’s key tourist attractions. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is widely recognised as one of the most beautiful waterways in the whole UK and this investment will help ensure it has a long and bright future.

"I look forward to seeing how the project progresses over the coming months and years."

The cash has been announced in the Welsh Government’s supplementary budget.
