A PUBLIC meeting is to be held in Brecon where council representatives will explain Powys’ new recycling rules.
The authority has acknowledged it has been receiving complaints from across the county after its crews were instructed to no longer collect the red recycling boxes if they contain stretchy plastic items such as carrier bags, magazine wrappers, food bags, bubble wrap and cling film.
Councillor John Powell, the council’s cabinet member responsible, will attend Thursday’s meeting alongside the council’s waste and recycling strategy manager Ashley Collins and Nigel Brinn who is head of highways, transport and recycling.
Brecon Mayor Rose Evans will also attend the meeting which starts at 6pm at the Guildhall.
Since the council began enforcing its recycling policy boxes have been left at the kerbside if they contain the wrong sort of plastic.
Instead binmen have been issued with stickers to attach to the boxes to inform householders they had put the wrong plastics in their recycling.
They must then remove the unwanted items from the red box for it to be collected in the following fortnight’s collection.
