Hay Town Council has informed residents and visitors that the public toilets on Oxford Road will be closed for the foreseeable future.

The toilet block is located next to the town’s main car park, and was recently targeted with an attempted theft of the ATM in the building’s wall. The ATM and the wall were damaged on Sunday, 4 January, in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, the damage caused during this incident has affected the structural integrity of that end of the building, meaning it is not safe for public use at this time. Nothing was taken in the attempted robbery.

Alternative toilet facilities are available and open in Hay, including two unisex toilets at the rear of the Oxford Road building (these remain safe to use) and two unisex toilets located by the Clock Tower.

A spokesperson for Hay Town Council said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding while this matter is addressed.”
