WORLD renowned baroque violinist from Brecon, Rachel Podger, known locally for the Baroque Festival which she organises every October, is to perform at Brecon Cathedral in a special music event on Saturday, April 27 , doors open at 5.30pm for what promises to be a memorable occasion.

The concert will feature works by famous Baroque composers, including Bach and Tartini, the latter being the first person to own a Stradivarius violin.

Rachel's reputation as one of the best baroque violinists in the world is evident from her well reviewed recordings and her frequent tours of America, Japan, Canada and Germany.

She also has major teaching roles at the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Royal Welsh School of Music, Cardiff and is visiting professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Rachel is donating the proceeds of the concert to the Brecon Cathedral Choir. The mixed choir of eight to 14-year-olds is recruited from local schools, and requires a great deal of commitment from both the children and their parents. Unlike most English cathedrals, the Welsh ones do not have cathedral schools.

Tickets are available from the Cathedral shop, children admitted free. The concert starts at 6pm.
