On Sunday, 23 August, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team were called to the Elan Valley to assist two people who had become lost while out on bikes.

One of the casualties had sustained an ankle injury and was cold. Due to their difficult location, evacuation by stretcher would have been challenging.

Therefore, a foot party and the team’s Gator were deployed to reach the casualties. Due to the location and terrain, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter assistance was required to airlift them from the area. The call out continued through the night, with team members deployed from approximately 9pm until 4.30am.

Both casualties were safe at the end of the incident, with one requiring further care for the ankle injury.

The team was called to Hergest Ridge a week later, on Saturday, 29 August, where a casualty was treated by ambulance personnel before being stretchered by team members to the roadside.

A spokesperson for the team said: “A big thank you to the The Royal Oak, Gladestry, who brought out a very welcome tray of tea and biscuits for the casualty’s cold and wet friends, and kindly offered tea and coffee to the team too.”
