BRECON town centre is to close to traffic on the Saturday of the annual Jazz Festival this August.
The move has been welcomed by traders in the town as likely to herald a return of the near 30-year-old event's famous carnival atmosphere.
Escalating costs associated with road closures - and fears over drunkenness in the streets - forced organisers to abandon the traditional town centre stage and street music altogether in 2006.
Since then some music has been staged on town centre streets but the roads have remained open throughout the three day event.
Festival promoters Orchard say the main town centre roads will be closed all day during Saturday, August 10 - though there won't be a stage in the Bulwark.
