After three years, Dickson’s Field in Sennybridge was full of activity once again with the return of the 157th Sennybridge Show.
The rain managed to hold off for the day, which was full competition, entertainment and fun. There was a large attendance for this year’s offering - the community taking the opportunity to meet up with old friends and be all together once again.
During the run-up to the Show a number of fundraising events were held including a very successful promise auction, raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance and the Show.
As well as this, there was a great turn out at the tractor run, raising money for the Brecon Hospital League of Friends and the Show.
Overall around £5000 has been raised for the various charities from the two events. The support and generosity from local businesses and communities was outstanding.
On the day of the event, the showground was buzzing with excitement as all the entries for the various classes started to arrive in the morning - from the sheep to the horticulture.

Exhibitors came from far and wide to support with large sheep entries. The cattle and horse entries also brought a high quality of competition to the Show.
There was also a great display of dogs, farm produce, and many entries in the domestic, craft and horticulture marquee. There were lots of activities for the children with the Army bringing their inflatable assault course, which was thoroughly enjoyed.
In the afternoon the star attraction in the Main Ring was the Band of the Welsh Guards, travelling from London to provide a spectacular performance to entertain the crowds.
All dressed in their military uniform and usually performing the Changing of the Guard outside Buckingham Palace, they played popular tunes including Men of Harlech.

During the performance, Gethin Havard provided a speech to remember those who had passed away over the last three years, involved with the show and from the local area. After a moment of silence to reflect and in remembrance the Band performed Ar Hyd yr Nos and the National Anthem before marching out of the Main Ring.
The Defynnog Vintage Society also put on a good show of tractors circling the Main Ring, along with the parade of hounds which is a great favourite for the children.

President Malcolm Davies said: “What a fabulous day we had at the Show and I would like to congratulate the committee for organising such a fabulous show. It was well supported with entries of a very high standard.
“Everyone enjoyed the main ring attractions, and the day ended with a thrilling Speed Shear Competition. Congratulations to all involved”
The horse section was very well supported with a large number of entries, both local exhibits and many travelling a good distance, bolstered our equine display. Throughout the day many of the judges commented on the exceptional standard of the animals on show. The Supreme Champion was won by DS James, Llanarth Duet, and the Reserve Champion John Thomas, Carregsawdde Mastermind.
There was a great turnout of 420 sheep entries, with the supreme sheep champion and Lowland section champion exhibit being a Texel ewe from The Morgan family of Blaencar.
The supreme reserve champion was a Badger faced ewe from C A & R Joseph, The Lloney. This Badger ewe was also the overall Hill champion exhibit and Coloured breeds champion exhibit. The commercial section champion was a crossbreed ewe from L Rees, The Gludy.

Within the domestic and craft tent the quality and standard of entries was high. Sennybridge Primary School had completed their dedicated classes beforehand and they along with all the open classes provided a feast for everyone entering the marquee to observe and admire, as well as the delicious smells from the cookery and preserve classes.

To finish the Sennybridge Show weekend, a ‘Masked Singer’ and tribute concert was held in the marquee on the Sunday night.
Over 200 people filled the marquee to shout “take it off” to reveal the five masked singers, with three accomplished judges in Wynne Rees, Elin Havard and Chris ‘Mavis’ Davies steering the audience and providing guesses throughout the night.
Tribute acts included Tina Turner, Elton John, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain and ABBA, along with performances from Cantorion Pontsenni and Sennybridge YFC.
The proceedings throughout the night were kept on track by the two funny and entertaining comperes - Rhian Dillon and Dyfed Watkins.
It was great to have so much local talent to perform on stage to provide such a fun and an enjoyable evening.
Over £2,500 was raised from the evening towards Cancer Research Wales.
The Devynock Society would like to thank everyone for their continued support and for all the helpers that put on an outstanding show and concert - see you next year!
