Sir Tom Jones is to appear at the Hay Festival, in his first public event since the death of wife Linda last month.

The singer will be discussing his autobiography with the editor of GQ, Dylan Jones on Sunday, June 5.

Over a career spanning six decades, Sir Tom has recorded an expansive body of work and performed with artists such as Elvis and Sinatra.

In this conversation, he will be revisiting his past and explores the twists of fate that took him from wartime Pontypridd to global renown. He reveals the stories behind the hits as well as the ups and downs of a remarkable life and career. His latest album is Long Lost Suitcase.

In other additions to the line-up announced today, two of the greatest modern Hamlets talk about the role. Maxine Peake played Hamlet in Sarah Frankcom’s landmark production for the Manchester Royal Exchange. Paapa Essiedu is playing Hamlet now at the RSC in a production that will be broadcast live to cinemas across the world on June 8. They talk to the author of This Orient Isle, Jerry Brotton, who is the Shakespeare adviser to the Hay Festival.
