A pedestrian suspension bridge used by walkers on a popular recreational trail has been given a new lease of life.
A survey was carried out which found that the bridge needed some minor repairs. The works carried out included stabilising the structural timbers, re-pointing the abutment on the Rhayader side of the River Elan, and re-weatherproofing the main structural timbers.
New rope handgrips and re-decking of the approaches with a hi-grip surface were also installed as part of the works.
Cllr John Powell, cabinet member for countryside services, said: “Our county has a rich and diverse landscape and we are blessed with a variety and choice of walking trails which everyone can enjoy. It is important that we maintain structures on the trails in Powys, such as Glyn Bridge, so that residents and visitors to the county are able to access our wonderful countryside.
“The work would not have been possible if it wasn’t for our partnership with Natural Resource Wales, who provide a grant to the council so that work can be carried out on recreational trails in the county. Part of the grant was prioritised for this structure to ensure its longevity and to protect it for the future enjoyment of users for years to come.”
