The man bringing brewing back to Hay-on-Wye is showcasing his new beers at a special event in the town this weekend.
Former mineral water salesman Luke Manifold launched his Lucky 7 Beer Co from the kitchen of his Hay-on-Wye home and now operates from a barn opposite.
This Saturday Luke will showcase four new beers at independent craft beer and bottle shop, Beer Revolution, in Market Street.
It is hosting a ’Tap Take Over’ event from 3pm where drinkers can get a taste of the American inspired craft beer revolution that has seen Luke launch his small scale brewery that can produce around 1,800 pints a week supplying local businesses in Hay and pubs in Cardiff.
"When I started in my kitchen production was very, very small, I could do about 100 litres or 200 pints a time but I’ve easily tripled that but it’s still small," said the 39-year-old father of his venture.
Lucky 7 is one of 20 new Welsh breweries to appear in the 2017 edition of ale connoisseur club Camra’s Good Beer Guide and Luke also represented Hay in Cardiff at the ‘Brewfest’ beer festival, organised by Newport-based craft brewery Tiny Rebel.
It is thought the last brewery in Hay - based at the Swan Hotel in Church Street - ceased production in the late 1930s.
Brewing also place at what is now the Red Indigo restaurant on Castle Street around the end of the 19th century.
Luke said: "Hopefully we can build on our promising start and put Hay back on the Welsh beer map."See this week's Brecon & Radnor Express for the full story on Luke's crafty brewery
